Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare Deserves Better

Twenty-five years after its May 2001 release, Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare still carries an undeserved reputation. Sandwiched between Uwe Boll's disastrous films and the botched 2008 reboot, the game from Parisian studio Darkworks is often dismissed as an unambitious Resident Evil clone. Its Metacritic score of 66 out of 100 cemented this contempt. Yet this fourth installment deserves far more serious consideration than collective memory grants it.
