Heatwarped: How an Indie Studio Is Reviving Need for Speed Underground

Electronic Arts has put Need for Speed on indefinite hold, and Criterion Games has been absorbed into Battlefield. The void left behind is massive — and an independent studio just stepped in to fill it. Heatwarped positions itself as a direct successor to Need for Speed Underground, complete with visual tuning, nighttime racing, and street culture. A 2026 release that poses an uncomfortable question for EA.
