Twisted Metal at 31: The PlayStation Franchise Gaming Left Behind

Thirty-one years after its U.S. PlayStation launch, Twisted Metal has no active video game in development. The PS5 reboot "Project Copper," handed off between Lucid Games and Firesprite, was quietly canceled in early 2024 before ever being announced. Only the TV series on Peacock, heading into a third season with Mark Hamill, keeps the license alive—a textbook case of how Sony mismanages historic franchises.
