Halo: Campaign Evolved — Summer 2026 Release Window Coming Into Focus

It took an unexpected marketing campaign to put a release window on Halo: Campaign Evolved. A collaboration between Xbox and Fanta — where QR codes on special-edition cans unlock a Master Chief skin — strongly suggests a launch tied to this summer's Xbox showcase.

A remake, not a sequel

Halo: Campaign Evolved is not Halo 7. It's a full remake of the franchise's first entry, Halo: Combat Evolved, rebuilt from the ground up on a new engine with modernized gameplay. The goal: give new players the best possible entry point into the Master Chief's universe, while offering veterans a remake that actually does the original justice.

Abstraction Games at the helm

Here's the twist: this remake isn't being developed by Halo Studios (formerly 343 Industries), but by Abstraction Games, a studio with a strong track record in high-quality ports and remakes — they're responsible for the PC versions of Horizon Zero Dawn and Rocket League, among others. The move keeps Halo Studios fully focused on Halo 7, which is being built on Unreal Engine.

Summer 2026: the timing sharpens

According to The Verge's Tom Warren, the release is targeting summer 2026 — a far cry from the November slot traditionally tied to the franchise's anniversary. Microsoft appears to be deliberately spacing out its major releases: Forza Horizon 6 in May, Halo and Gears of War over the summer, Fable in the fall.

Halo: Campaign Evolved is expected on Xbox Series X|S and PC via Game Pass, and would further cement Microsoft's multiplatform strategy with a PS5 version also confirmed.
