Frostpunk Launches on Switch October 19, No Switch 2 Optimization
11 bit studios confirms Frostpunk's Nintendo Switch release for October 19, with a playable demo available now. But no dedicated version is planned for Switch 2, which will rely on backward compatibility alone. A choice that raises questions about this demanding city-builder's real place in Nintendo's hybrid catalog.
The Witcher 3 Remastered on Switch 2: The Port That Fixes 2019
Seven years after a disappointing first Switch port, The Witcher 3 returns on Switch 2 via its Remastered version, running smoother and looking sharper in handheld mode. Gamekult asks the hard question in its "Turn Controller" column: should players who've already finished the game go back? Between technical catch-up and unchanged content, this port raises a bigger issue: what's a remaster worth when it only corrects a past mistake?
007 First Light Switch 2 Version Delayed to 2027
The Switch 2 version of 007 First Light won't launch in 2026. IO Interactive confirmed the delay without offering a replacement date, leaving Nintendo console owners in limbo. This postponement signals deeper tensions between technical ambition and the constraints of porting to hybrid hardware—especially as the game still needs to prove itself on platforms where it's already available.
Crisis Core Reunion Launches on Switch 2 with Limited-Time Launch Price
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion just dropped on Switch 2 with no advance warning, announced directly during the latest Nintendo Direct. Square Enix is backing the immediate release with a promotional price valid until September 24, 2026. It's a curious strategy: does a four-year-old remaster of a prequel still have legs on a new platform, or is Square Enix simply trying to squeeze profit from a catalog that's spinning its wheels?
Zelda Direct 40th Anniversary: Ocarina of Time on Switch 2 and More
Nintendo has convened a Direct entirely dedicated to the Zelda saga for its 40th anniversary, with a release date for Ocarina of Time on Switch 2, product announcements, and potentially a film project on the agenda. Thirty minutes to celebrate a franchise that has never carried more weight in the market. What this event reveals about Nintendo's 2026 strategy is another question altogether.
Switch 2 at $500: Nintendo Owns the Price Hike, Players Search for Deals
Since September 1st, 2026, the Switch 2 officially retails for $499.99 at Nintendo. This symbolic threshold reshuffles the deck for retailers. Some are still cutting prices to clear inventory, but for how long? This price point isn't trivial: it positions Nintendo's console in the same tier as Sony and Microsoft machines. Players who've been waiting now face a quick decision.
The Witcher 3 on Switch 2: Free Upgrade Includes Physical Copies
CD Projekt Red has cleared up ambiguity for owners of The Witcher 3's physical version on Nintendo Switch: upgrading to the Switch 2 version will be free, regardless of purchase format. A confirmation that stands in sharp contrast to industry norms and signals something about the Polish studio's commercial stance as Nintendo's new console launches.
Crimson Desert: DLC Coming 2026, Switch 2 Port Delayed to 2027
Pearl Abyss confirmed in its latest financial results: a Crimson Desert DLC is expected before year-end 2026, while the Switch 2 port is pushed to 2027. Two distinct timelines that outline the studio's post-launch strategy — and raise questions about the core game's stability before layering on expansions.
Clair Obscur on Switch 2: Sandfall Hits a Technical Wall
Sandfall Interactive confirms that porting Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 to Switch 2 presents serious technical challenges. For an independent studio riding one of 2025's most remarkable launches, it's a red flag: adapting an RPG of this scale to a hybrid architecture is no simple task. The question is no longer whether the game will reach Nintendo's console, but in what condition — and at what cost to the team.
BlazBlue Entropy Effect X Lands on Switch 2 with Platinum
A million copies sold on PC, yet barely a whisper in the West: BlazBlue Entropy Effect X gets a second shot with a Switch 2 port. Astrolabe Games is rolling out a free new character, Platinum the magical girl from the BlazBlue franchise, plus some extra goodies. For this action roguelite from 91Act, Nintendo Switch 2 represents a genuine test of conquest in Western markets.
Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising Heads to Switch 2 With Id Joining the Roster
Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising is heading to Switch 2, with the character Id joining as a new playable fighter. Cygames is doubling down on its flagship licenses: Granblue Fantasy Relink recently got its Endless Ragnarok version, and the competitive fighting game follows the same expansion strategy. Two separate announcements that reveal a coherent vision, but raise real questions about whether the fighting game can find its audience on a hybrid platform.
Granblue Fantasy Relink Endless Ragnarok: Demo Live, Countdown On
Cygames has released a playable demo of Granblue Fantasy: Relink – Endless Ragnarok on PS5, PS4, Switch 2, and PC. Less than a month before launch, this is no minor move—it's an invitation to test a standalone expansion on platforms that previously had no access to Relink. The stakes go beyond a simple demo. This is about winning over an entirely new player base, with Switch 2 leading the charge.
